From exposed slope to defined levels
Retaining walls, sandstone terraces and timber batten cladding now organise the change in level with warmth and precision.
Ropsley • Tiered Garden Transformation
A steep, disconnected garden reshaped into a sequence of useful sandstone terraces, planted levels and comfortable routes.
The project
The original garden had a pronounced level change and exposed ground that made much of the space difficult to use.
Instant Eden cleared and prepared the garden before constructing retaining walls to create tiered levels. New sandstone paving and two sets of steps now connect the spaces, while gravel areas, flower beds and timber batten cladding soften the structure and give each level a clear purpose.
Built into the ground
Construction-stage photographs reveal the excavation, retaining structure and step formation beneath the finished sandstone and timber detailing.

Before & after
The same viewpoints show how retaining walls, sandstone, timber cladding and planting converted the slope into a coherent outdoor space.

Two sets of steps link practical terraces, gravel areas and beds while preserving access around the outbuilding.
